Filters:
Filters 30,000 gallons of water which is equivalent to 1,587 showers lasting 10 minutes each. If you only shower once per day, that’s over 4 years of showering before the filter needs to be changed.
Chrome Shower Head Filter and Shower Head Replacement Filter

When I change the filter, I notice flakes of chrome inside the housing. I wonder if this has a negative effect on the filtration. Other than that, I love the head letting me know visually of the water temperature and the filtration seems to help not letting too much water stains on my shower glass. When the water pressure is low, change the filter. My filter has not lasted a year (or 30k gallons) as advertised; about 4 months or so.

The flakes you see are most likely chrome plating from the inside of the housing, this should pass and you let the shower run. The lifespan of the filter depends on the quality of your water, often if the filter has a short lifespan it is due to a high concentration of rust in the water.
